Zagreb Tour (5 of 5)
This shows the area where Janice's maternal grandparents once had their home in Bosiljevo, Croatia located just outside of Samobor. The Germans bulldozed through this area and just the stone wall on the left is all that remains today. |
Pictured here is Janice wearing a very ornate Romanian blouse she purchased during her trip in 1982 to Cluj, Napoca Romania. The black skirt is from a Croatian market from stari grad or the old town. The items on the right are souvenirs which include a pair of leather shoes made in Zagreb, the single-stringed gusle (a bowed instrument) played by bards to recite the long Epic poems; the red crocheted purses are in a typically Croatian ethnic folk pattern and you see some costumed Croatians and a tamburashi player, near the bottom of the picture. The tamburitza is the national instrument native to Croatia. |
